It was a random idea to make steaks for lunch during the last sem break. I love cooking and especially, baking. I guess there will be more and more recipes on my blog next time! =)
Ignore the antique radio that my dad has. LOL! I’m lazy to get a good picture of the course. Teehee. It’s rather easy to make this steak. All the tools you need for this steak is a grill pan and slice. =)
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon marjoram
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Any parts of beef will do I guess. I prefer to have smaller flank steak. =) I got this from here! You can visit the hyperlink for the instructions. Very easy to do. Teehee. Me loves easy peasie recipes. =P The herbs might be a little tough to get in Malaysia but no fred ‘cause you can easily found them in Carrefour or Jusco. You can give Tesco and Giant a skip since they only sell few types of common fresh herbs and spices. I got all of them in Carrefour Bukit Rimau since it’s very near to my place. Later then I found out that Jusco (One Utama) actually sells them at lower prices, and even fresher too. I love to have grocery shopping in 1U when it comes to ingredients for western cuisine!
FYI, it’s okay to not able to get all the ingredients. You can google for spice substitutions! It actually taste almost the same. =) To add on, it’s better to preheat the grill pan for 5 – 8 minutes so the steak won’t stick to the pan. You can always let the beef marinate for longer hours to have a stronger taste. =)
I know it doesn’t look appealing here but hey, it’s super damn tasty! All you need is a pot to boil the potatoes, a spatula to get those potatoes up, a bowl to smash the potatoes and a potato smasher. Egg beater or fork can be a good replacement for potato smasher if you don’t want to get one in the supermarket. =)
- Potatoes
- Milk
- Pepper (white)
- Salt
All the ingredients are based on your own preference. Beware that a potato may look small but it can make quite a portion of smashed potato. The milk can be full cream, fresh milk or low fat, all based on your preference again. I prefer full cream milk as it’s smoother and richer for smashed potatoes. You can replace milk with sour cream too! Both milk and sour cream is to create texture for the smashed potatoes because it would be course and hard to smash if it’s too dry. =) Salt and pepper is for seasoning use. You can add some butter too, so the smashed potatoes can be smooth and melts after you put it in your mouth ;)
Unlike baking, cooking is like doing an experiment. =) Sometimes, it’s really based on your own preference to make the right taste for you. The smashed potatoes can be in lighter taste to match with the brown sauce or you can spice it up so you can eat it alone.
I got the brown sauce from my aunt =D Teehee. It’s available at Carrefour and Jusco. It’s quite troublesome to cook brown sauce so I opt for the instant one. All you need is to put the brown sauce powder in the pan and gradually adding water in it while stirring. Remember to add a little water at a time so you can control the thickness of the sauce. =)
Hope you’ll enjoy this!
Till then.
